MONTEBELLO – A suspected drug dealer is in jail after Montebello Special Investigations Unit detectives staked out his home and then searched it Thursday night. Detectives recovered an ounce of methamphetamines, $16,000 in cash and two handguns during a search of the south Montebello home, Sgt. Brian Dragoo said. Officers would not release the suspect’s name because of a continuing investigation. Police discover missing gun MONTEBELLO – Authorities uncovered a missing gun five days after arresting a man suspected of transporting a half pound of methamphetamine and shooting a gun from his car window. Montebello police responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Bluff Road and Washington Boulevard on Jan. 20. They found gun casings on the ground next to a car. They searched the car, and found a half pound of methamphetamine. They arrested the man and woman who were in the car, said Sgt. Brian Dragoo. Officials identified the man and primary suspect as Joe Garcia, 31, of East Los Angeles. Garcia posted bail two days later and officers got word that he was trying to recover his car from a tow yard, Dragoo said. Officers suspected the gun was in the car and wrote a search warrant for the vehicle on Wednesday. When they searched it, they found a .40-caliber handgun hidden in the air-conditioning vent. Officers arrested Garcia again and added an additional weapons charge. After searching his home, they found narcotics paraphernalia, Dragoo said.
