ICC World Cup PCB complains to ICC over ‘offensive’ India vs Pakistan World Cup commercial on sports channel

Posted on by

first_imgNew Delhi: The irritated Pakistan Cricket Board has filed a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) about a television commercial (TVC) by host broadcaster Star Sports which they have found ‘objectionable’.In fact, the ICC mandarins have had a quiet word with the broadcasters and told them about PCB’s objections with regards to the TVC. In fact, top BCCI officials are in knowledge of the issue but have stayed away as this doesn’t concern them.“Yes, Ehsan Mani on behalf of PCB has intimated the ICC raising objection on the content of the TVC. I am not sure if Mani has written a letter or had telephonic conversation, but we have come to know that an objection has been raised,” a senior BCCI official privy to the controversy told PTI on conditions of anonymity. In their build up to Sunday’s marquee World Cup encounter here, the Star Sports released a TVC, an extension of the infamous and crass ‘Mauka Mauka’ advertisement where the Indian fan terms himself as Pakistani fan’s ‘baap’ (father). In the commercial, a Bangladeshi fan can be seen asking a Pakistani fan about Sunday’s encounter. The Pakistani says that his ‘Abbu’ (father) used to tell him that one should keep trying and suddenly an Indian fan says “Maine kab kahaa” (When did I tell you?).It has been learnt that ICC has already spoken to the Star Sports on this issue. For the global body, the bigger issue is the build up to the Bangladesh game and they are expecting there won’t be any more TVCs that create unnecessary controversy.Meanwhile, representatives of an Indian channel had their accreditation cancelled for violating the ICC NRH (Non Rights Holders) clause. The match number 22 of the ICC World Cup 2019 to feature arch-rival India and Pakistan facing each other at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. Statistically, India has an edge over Pakistan as they have never lost to them in any World Cup and the record still stands 6-0. (With inputs from PTI) For all the Latest Sports News News, ICC World Cup News, Download News Nation Android and iOS Mobile Apps.last_img read more

Kenyon Martin Jr. says he’ll skip college basketball at Vanderbilt to turn pro

Posted on by

first_imgKenyon Martin Jr., the son of longtime NBA player and University of Cincinnati star Kenyon Martin, will skip playing college basketball at Vanderbilt to pursue options at the professional level, he told 247Sports on Wednesday. He becomes the second national recruit in as many weeks to opt for professional basketball over college. RJ Hampton last week signed a deal with a pro team based in New Zealand that plays in Australia’s National Basketball League rather than playing collegiately at his choice of top Division I programs. Hampton’s decision to skip college influenced Martin, unidentified sources told ESPN, though Hampton is rated a five-star prospect and projected first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. In contrast, Martin, a 6-6, 195-pound power forward, is rated a three-star prospect and ranked 47th nationally at his position, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, and far from being ready to play in the NBA, as his father did for 15 seasons. Kenyon Martin was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft after a stellar career at Cincinnati capped by being named national player of the year in 2000. Related News NCAA 3-point line moving back to international distance Martin committed on May 5 to Vanderbilt, where he was expected to join high school and Nike EYBL teammate Scotty Pippen, also a son of a former NBA player, Hall of Fame inductee Scottie Pippen.center_img Former USC basketball assistant avoids prison in recruiting corruption case Martin averaged 16.7 points and 9.8 rebounds his senior season for Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California. He was to arrive this week at Vanderbilt, along with Pippen, as part of new Commodores coach and former NBA player Jerry Stackhouse’s first recruiting class. Instead, Martin informed the Vandy staff of his decision, an unidentified source told 247Sports, which added that Martin said he had yet to sign a professional deal.last_img read more
