Development andmaintenance of website and database’s in the support ofinternational lab quality projects. Individual demonstratesintermediate to advanced IT skills (i.e. HTML, Cold Fusion, SQLServer, JavaScript) and the necessary IT security and support ofthose systems. Coordinator will manage a varied caseload andprovide technical expertise and leadership to other InternationalQA/QC Coordinators to provide assistance to NIH or other sponsorfunded international laboratories performing research and otherclients as defined by our sponsor. Position is based at JHU inBaltimore. Limited International travel isrequired.Primary Duties andResponsibilities:Key position for SMILE ITinitiatives and projects; monitoring timelines and deliverables.Extensive IT project work including but not limited to: databasedesign and programming of internal record keeping and controlfiles. Provide internal control and management of assignedresources. Liaison for all IT projects that involve contractors andcentral IT support staff from the department orschool.In collaboration with theSMILE Manager assist with development of IT project goals,objectives, policies and procedures. Assume lead responsibilitiesin the absence of the Project Manager for both internal andexternal issues. Provide direction in core functions of the SMILEProject. Demonstrate technical expertise through training and/orpresentations for SMILE staff and other project collaborators. Actas a resource to staff for resolving difficult technical and ITissues. Responsible for preparation of project deliverables incollaboration with the SMILE International QA/QC Manager for thecontract sponsor.Assist with website andwebsite resource development while assuming a key role forenhancements and improvements of website used in the dailyworkflow. Utilize computer informatics for email communication,developing spreadsheets, databases, documents and presentations inorder to technically assist international laboratories in meetingobjectives defined by this project, the NIH and other sponsors.Assist with website design and programming for improvedfunctionality and usability for SMILE staff, NIH sponsor andexternal clients. Use expertise in mentoring staff on the use ofthose and other systems as developed.Coordinate and monitorexternal quality assurance activities. Compile data intostatistical summary reports using Microsoft Excel or databaseprogram and provide status reports to the laboratory, NIH, andother study sponsors. Identify QA system failures, recommendsolutions, and provide assistance to international laboratorieswhen corrective actions are indicated. Review SOPs, reports,scientific protocols, and other papers as required. Provide statusupdates and/or recommendations to the NIH and othersponsors.Review internationallaboratory assessment reports, create corrective action plans andprovide technical assistance in resolving deficiencies. Will berequired to research and select appropriate regulatory andscientific resource material which will be used to support/enhancesuggested actions. Using Microsoft Excel or a database program,track progress and provide status reports to the SMILE manager, thelaboratory, NIH, Clinical and other study sponsors. Use knowledgeof current accrediting and regulatory requirements to ensureinternational laboratories are in compliance with suchrequirements. Apply professional knowledge of medical technologyprinciples, theories, practices, and methodologies to review,revise, maintain, and/or recommend quality improvement (QI),assurance (QA) and control (QC) programs in internationallaboratories. Work with the NIH and other study sponsors to providematerials and methods to ensure patient safety is monitored throughappropriate QA systems. Share knowledge gained from professionalexperience in the clinical laboratory to assure internationallaboratory compliance with current Good Clinical LaboratoryPractice (GCLP) and other regulations and/or guidelines as definedby the NIH and other sponsors.Attend meetings,conferences, and training sessions as directed by the SMILEmanager. Travel to client laboratories to remediate EQA, audititems and support Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) sharingknowledge and expertise by providing training sessions, assistanceand support to colleagues both internal and external. Limitedinternational travel is required.Actively participate oncommittees as required. Perform committee chair duties and lead onspecial projects as assigned. Assist in team building, mentoring ofstaff and conflict resolution.Ensure safe workingconditions for staff, while maintaining compliance with theexpectations of the project sponsor.May be required to completeannual competency review, and must insure compliance with JohnsHopkins Policy, Laboratory Policy & Procedure, Health, Safety& Environment regulations, and all applicable privacy &confidentiality laws/practices.Perform other related dutiesas assigned.MinimumQualifications:Bachelor’s degree in MedicalTechnology, chemical or biological sciences. Four years technicalexperience in a clinical laboratory. Experience in quality controland assurance. Technical experience in Hematology, Chemistry,Immunology and/or Microbiology.PreferredQualifications:Bachelor’s degree inInformation Technology, Computer Science, HealthcareManagement.4 years related experiencein information technology, database and/or web development andmaintenance.Microsoft Access orequivalent database experience.Additional Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities:Understanding or exposure tohealthcare or clinical laboratory environments (chemistry,hematology, immunology, microbiology.Working knowledge of FDA,CAP, CLIA regulations and CLSI procedure formats applicable to anaccredited clinical lab.Demonstrated skills in HTML,Cold Fusion, SQL Server, and Java Script.Advanced skills in computerinformatics, skilled in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Windowsoperating system, file organization, and internetresearch.Able to work independentlyand provide leadership in a team environment.Demonstrate effective verbaland written communication skills with Project sponsor, management,networks and other collaborators.Manage time effectivelywhile maintaining various projectresponsibilities.Technical Qualifications orSpecialized Certifications: ASCP (or equivalent) MedicalTechnologist certification preferred.Equipment, Machine, or ToolRequirements: Experience and understandingin laboratory instrumentation and equipment including: assaymethods, maintenance requirements and general operational troubleshooting.
