EPL: Watford climb out of relegation

first_imgRelatedPosts Trio of signings make instant impact as Everton stun Spurs Watford appoint new head coach EPL: Watford battle Gunners for survival Watford moved out of the relegation zone as their stunning revival under new manager Nigel Pearson continued with a 3-0 victory at south coast strugglers Bournemouth on Sunday. Abdoulaye Doucoure’s goal shortly before half time gave Watford the lead and Troy Deeney smashed in their second midway through the second half. Bournemouth offered little by way of a response and substitute Roberto Pereyra completed the rout in stoppage time. Watford produced an impressive display to climb out of the relegation zone. The win, Watford’s fourth in the six games since Pearson took charge with them bottom of the table, lifted them to 17th place, ahead of Aston Villa who play Manchester City later. While Watford, who won only one of their opening 17 league games, are on the up, Bournemouth’s hopes of a sixth successive season of top-flight football are sinking. Eddie Howe’s side looked short on confidence as they slipped to their third successive defeat without scoring a goal. They are second bottom with 20 points from 22 games having been as high as seventh in early November.Tags: Abdoulaye DoucoureNigel PearsonRoberto PereyraTroy DeeneyWatfordlast_img read more

Viswanathan Anand keeps lead in Zurich challenge

Posted on by

first_imgFormer world champion Viswanathan Anand played out two draws to keep his full point lead in the Zurich Chess Challenge here. After two wins against Levon Aronian of Armenia and Dutchman Anish Giri, Anand wriggled out of problems against Latvian Alexei Shirov in the third round game and then played out a draw with Hikaru Nakamura of United States to stay afloat in the Classical-Rapid section. With two points for a victory and one for a draw, Anand took his tally to six points overall and will have white pieces against Vladimir Kramnik of Russia in the final round of the Rapid section. After the last round, the players will change gears and enter a blitz play-off wherein one point will be awarded for a win and half a point for a draw.Nakamura and Kramnik share the second spot on five points apiece. While the American also drew both his games, Kramnik was a class act against Giri in the fourth round that gave him a chance to jump to the joint second spot.Aronian on three points is sole fourth in standings while Giri and Shirov are at the bottom of the tables with two points apiece.      The third round witnessed no decisive results despite keenly-contested affairs. Anand was pitted against Shirov and it was the most dramatic game of the round.     The Latvian fianchettoed his dark squared Bishop in the Spanish opening and sacrificed an exchange and Anand was in some troubles as all black pieces spat fire on board.      However, some deft manoeuvres by Anand ensured parity after the Indian gave back his rook for a minor piece and the onus was on Shirov to find some finesse in the final stages to force a draw.advertisementIn the other games of third round, Kramnik drew with Nakamura wherein the latter had to put up a splendid defense while Aronian also achieved the same result against Giri. The fourth round was most crucial for Anand as he had black against Nakamura but the Indian ace was seen pressing with black pieces out of a reverse Grunfeld.Nakamura sacrificed a pawn and reached a Rook and opposite colours Bishop endgame to force a draw in the end. Kramnik’s win against Giri came in a Reti opening while Aronian subdued Shirov for his first win in the tournament.     In the final round now, Anand will have white pieces against Kramnik while Nakamura plays with black against Aronian. A draw should be enough for Anand to clinch the Rapid title here.     Results round 4: Hikaru Nakamura (Usa, 5) drew with V Anand (Ind, 6); Vladimir Kramnik (Rus, 5) beat Anish Giri (Ned, 2); Alexei Shirov (Lat, 2) lost to Levon Aronian (Arm,3).     Round 3: Shirov drew with Anand; Nakamura drew with Kramnik; Aronian drew with Giri.last_img read more

first_img 1 of 6 Last Wednesday, January 24th, Boston Community Collaborative’s drama students at the Josiah Quincy School afterschool program performed “Lost, The Origins of the Lost Children of Neverland”. BCC students perform “Lost: The Origins of the Lost Children of Neverland” This original play was created and written by the students of the class, with guidance from BCC’s lead drama instructor, Ingrid Oslund. The Plot: Every night before bed, Wendy Darling tells her sisters the story of Peter Pan and his adventures in Neverland. However, they have gotten bored and she decides to make up new tales about the Lost Kids who joined Peter Pan’s motley crew. Little do they know, Peter and his fairy friend, Tinkerbell are watching and are not very happy with this change of routine.*Advertisement* The first story takes place in the bustling city of Havana, where a young orphan named Lily is forced to work in a factory day and night. She longs to escape this works, when a mysterious stranger comes along and asks her to think of a happy thought. She is skeptical at first, but when she does, she is able to fly to Neverland, where she joins the ranks of the Lost Children. The second story follow Toodles, a boy working on his Uncle’s farm when suddenly a tornado rips through the country side. Peter Pan offers to save him. After being sprinkled with pixie dust, he shoots into the air revealing that even in times of trouble, he can always think of a happy thought. The play ends with a movement piece depicting the journey of these children and embracing the sense of imagination that Neverland inspires in all of us.Director’s Note: The Story of Peter Pan is a timeless tale of the adventurous nature of childhood. A time that is new and exciting to all, with a sense of imagination at every turn. Childhood is also a time of great stress, where experiences seem too large to comprehend and every moment feels like the most important moment of your life.  Neverland and the character of Peter Pan represent an escape, a safe place where all can be solved with faith, trust and pixie dust. This mirrors the magic that theatre brings to me, and anyone who has had the pleasure of being touched by it. It is a place that allows you to become someone entirely different from yourself, to gain empathy for those who you have never met and to give you power in the face of an audience. I set out this session with the hope of giving these students ownership over this narrative, to make it their own. They have exceeded my expectations and I hope they know they have created a little magic of their own on this stage.A lovely, festive reception followed the show.BCC was incorporated in 2013 and strives to create community by connecting people and resources.BCC offers courses in Drama, Dance, Fitness and Engineering for Kids during the St John School afterschool program, courses in Drama in the North End, and at the Josiah Quincy afterschool program.
